It’s the desire of every artist to find an audience with which a deep connection can be established on a metaphysical level. Great art must first be visually compelling to capture the eye of the viewer, but beyond that it should tap into some shared human emotion, be it love, fear, empathy, desire, grief, even anger. This can be achieved through blatant expressions of these feelings, or it can be delivered through metaphor. The subject matter one chooses to utilize is personal to the artist and in offering a vision unique to our own thoughts and feelings, we expose our psyche for all the world to witness. This can be both exhilarating and frightening for the artist, as many of us are introverted by nature, enjoying the solitude of our studios as we engage our senses and attempt to render concepts that arise from the depths of our souls.
Not all art appeals to everyone, nor does every artist enjoy success; we can only hope that our work touches the hearts of enough benefactors to allow us to do what we were born to do.
Having come from a successful career producing commercial art, my hope is that these new works will be enjoyed by fine art connoisseurs as much as they give me great satisfaction in creating them.
